“Not until we are lost do we begin to understand ourselves”. – Henry David Thoreau
Solitude is the best thing that can ever happen to you. Don’t perceive it as a sad necessity. It’s in solitude that you get to know yourself. You confront your true self face to face. You discover who you are, uncovering the darkest corners of your soul. You carry immense wisdom within you, and now is the time you can use to listen to yourself and spend the best time of your life with the most important person in your life, who will never leave you for a step: yourself.
Here’s how you can make the most of this time:
- Find your passion.
If you haven’t found your passion yet, now is the time! Try and test what interests you the most and what makes you excited at the mere thought of it.
- Reconnect with your inner child.
Remember who you wanted to be as a child. In childhood lies many of our passions and interests that we buried alive with the expectations of parents or teachers. Try to remember what fascinated you when you were little. Each of us has a talent within. It might be buried very deep, but it lies beneath the surface; dig it up and give it new life!
- Start journaling.
I cannot express how much it has changed my life, and I deeply believe it can change yours too! It’s the perfect friend who will never reveal your secrets; paper will accept everything. Don’t be afraid that it won’t be a national epic; this is your journal, you create it on your terms, write, paint, doodle, do whatever you want with it. Pour out your emotions and thoughts on paper; it will help you better perceive your thoughts and organize them. It’s truly a vast topic, and I’ll definitely write more about it in a separate post.
- Find your sport.
There’s a whole range of different sports, and I’m sure you’ll find one that brings you a lot of joy and fulfillment. We all know the unique benefits that physical activity brings, both health-wise and mentally.
5. Define your goals and priorities.
Often, when focusing on life with another person, we forget about ourselves and what we desire. We care for the relationship with that other person, but we neglect to nurture the relationship with ourselves. Sometimes, we end up abandoning our dreams because we channel all our attention into the partnership. It’s not that we want this; it just happens, and if it has happened to you, there’s no need to worry – most of us have been there. Now, however, when you have more time for yourself, make the best of it! Define your dreams, what do you desire? Don’t hesitate to ask questions. YOU have wisdom within you that will answer, once again: listen to yourself, you carry all the answers about yourself.
- Pamper Yourself.
Take yourself on a date, grab a book and a blanket, and head to the park or forest to enjoy the sun’s rays, vividly playing on your face. If you prefer, take yourself to the movies, the theater, or a concert – do whatever you like. Normalize talking highly about yourself. Be so rooted in yourself that nobody’s presence or absence can disturb your inner peace.
These are only a few examples how you can use your solitude. There are much more, that I’ll write about soon.
Please remember: only you can take responsibility for your life and lead it in the direction you desire.
When you love life, it loves you back, and when you’re grateful for what you already have and who you are, it will give you even more. NAMASTE.
